From Chaing Mai, we flew to Ko Samui, a lush green island where we spend a few days relaxing on the beach, renting jet skis, and snorkeling.
For unmatched luxury on the island, the Le Royal Meridien Baan Taling Ngam is a beautiful place to stay. We stayed at the more reasonably priced Amari Palm Reef Resort and found the bungalows to be nice and clean, the staff friendly, and the beach and pool relaxing and beautiful. Ask for a quiet room on the North side of the hotel. In summer 2006 the lobby and beach rooms are being renovated, but guests have reported that the renovations are not disruptive. Contact the hotel for the latest information about renovations.
Food in Ko Samui involved more seafood than in Chiang Mai or Bangkok. We loved sitting at tables on the beach eating our lunch or dinner.
We also did a boat ride out to the National Marine park where we snorkeled and kayaked. This was a great experience.
For many people, going to a full moon party is one of their memorable (or perhaps hard to remember) experiences while visiting Koh Samui. In recent years the full moon parties have become so crowded that they're overrun. Nowadays, people arrive a few days early for the pre-full moon parties.
